There is a lot that goes into staging, organizing and choreographing a fashion show. And while it's many of these details that can make or break a show, most of these elements will remain elusive to the audience and models involved. The importance of some of them to the models, however, should not be understated.
Unlike adult shows, props can play an important part in setting the mood and excitement for child models. As they don't necessarily have the experience or maturity of older runway models, children can be prompted to perform by the elements around them. Each show, season and theme demands its own look. Preparing the child model for that look can go along way in settling their nerves about the big day and create some anticiation for the event.
To help prepare your model, try to view the stage before the show. If it's not fully decorated, explain what might be there later. Show the model where they will be entering and exiting stage, where they will walk and where you will be while they are onstage (ex: "Mommy and Daddy are going to be right out here watching you..".)
If you are unable to physically walk onstage to practice, tape out a small runway at home to allow your model to practice going on & off. Explain how your child will know when to go onstage, when to walk and when to leave.
Remebering that one of the scariest parts of a show for a child is walking onstage to a room full of people will help you focus on the importance of discussing with your child what to expect!
So, now they're ready to go onstage. Let's take a look at the "Runway Walk"...
